Jalan Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur

‘The Art of Life Award’ of StarProperty.my Awards 2019

Trion aspires to become the ‘Southern Gateway’ to Kuala Lumpur alongside its up-and- coming neighbours of Bandar Malaysia and Tun Razak Exchange. Located within the industrial district of Chan Sow Lin, Trion’s scheme is set to become the tallest building in Sungai Besi, and one of the tallest residential buildings in the city.

The project is both an integrated mixed-use development (IMUD) and transit-oriented development (TOD) with four distinct functions as offices, service apartments, retails and a hotel. The project’s primary objective is to create added value functions, services and assets for its future users, tenants, patrons and investors, whilst constructing a landmark for Chan Saw Lin area. At 1,344 residential units, 38 retail commercial lots, a 235-room hotel and offices, Trion’s scheme comprises three high-rise towers atop an eight-storey podium with a basement. The design cornerstone is chipping off its rectangular plinth to create a more curvaceous form, much like a sculptural feature for its context. The lagoon-shaped indent here is designed as a garden to facilitate connectivity amongst the retails, offices, hotel and access points at ground level, objectively setting an equal attention throughout the design process.

There are five tiers of open landscaping within the project, and Trion will soon don over an acre’s worth of landscape as a feature provided more than the authority’s minimum requirement. It is an approach to differentiate Trion from the ‘concrete jungle’ setup, and to offer added value experiences for its four functions.

Whilst the podium façade responds to its curvilinear form, circulation and entrances of the different components, the towers are expressed in a series of irregular modular boxes with angular glass planes, aluminium panels, metal meshes and protruding box-like mouldings. It’s a simple gesture of rhythms and repetitions to establish a visual landmark in the city.
