The Pines Hotel
Malacca
Completed 2014
The condominium-hotel development made full use of its strategic location next to the Malacca River, and just to the north of the gazetted Heritage Town as an accommodation for both business and leisure with 390 rooms to suit. The architecture does not aspire to replicate nor romanticise Malacca’s historical identity, but to be rather minimal in contrast to its rich context. Thus, the hotel houses its patrons in either of its north or south facing rooms with celebratory views of Malacca, whilst common areas are simply designed for the hotelier’s flexibility in curating local art pieces. On the seventh floor, the saltwater infinity pool is a feat and making The Pines Hotel as the first in town to have poolside suites with private decks for the exclusive dips and plunges.
